Harneys presents second edition of BVI commercial law textbook

19 December 2012

International offshore law firm Harney Westwood & Riegels is pleased to announce the publication of the second edition of the first and only practitioner’s textbook British Virgin Islands Commercial Law. This authoritative reference for lawyers and other professionals who work frequently with corporate structures and transactions focuses exclusively on BVI law and practice and draws on the firm’s core expertise and experience as the BVI’s oldest and largest law firm.

The publication provides a deep analytical view of the offshore jurisdiction’s legal landscape as it relates to companies, partnerships, credit and security, investment funds, insolvency, dispute resolution, taxation, trusts and more. The second edition incorporates a number of major changes that occurred in 2012 including the passing of the BVI Business Companies (Amendment) Act 2012 and the accompanying BVI Business Companies Regulations 2012, amendments to various other key statutes, and an analysis of recent key commercial court decisions.

Global Head of Banking and Finance Colin Riegels who co-edited the textbook alongside Partner Ian Mann commended the team that were involved in bringing the 800+ page book containing twelve chapters to fruition and said he was “confident that the end product reinforces that Harneys remains the strongest law firm in our field, with a depth of BVI legal expertise that our competitors cannot match.”

Harneys will celebrate the second edition of the publication with a book launch and presentation from a keynote speaker in Hong Kong on 7 March 2013 in collaboration with Thomson Reuters, parent company of leading legal publisher Sweet & Maxwell.
