Expertise and Professional Background

Ian joined Harneys in 2009 having spent two years working for another BVI offshore law firm. He specialises in insolvency law, shareholders' disputes and international commercial litigation.

Prior to moving offshore, Ian practised as a barrister at 13 King's Bench Walk, chambers of Roger Ellis QC, London. He was regularly instructed by a wide range of Central Government departments, in particular HM Revenue & Customs, and specialised in VAT law, asset tracing, confiscation and forfeiture.

Ian is an experienced advocate who has a number of reported cases in the High Court and Court of Appeal in England. In his time in the BVI, he has appeared as advocate in the High Court, Commercial Court and Court of Appeal.

At the Inns of Court School of Law, the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn awarded Ian the Eastham Scholarship and the Hardwicke Entrance Award. 

Ian was also Judicial Assistant to Lord Justice Buxton in the Court of Appeal in England for two court terms.
