Expertise and Professional Background
Chetan heads the India desk at Harneys and is a member of the Investment Funds & Regulatory team. His recent experience in Investment Funds involves counselling European and American investment managers on restructuring distressed funds and advising both fund managers and investors on litigious and regulatory matters involving funds. Chetan has also recently advised on establishing hybrid funds in the BVI and Cayman Islands to address current economic and market conditions; worked with Asian and GCC managers in creating emerging market and Sharia compliant funds; and represented leading Indian banks and private equity houses on their investment structures for both inbound and outbound investments from India.
Chetan's India experience includes a range of corporate and finance work including international business transactions (acquisitions, JVs, in-bound investments, outsourcing and employment arrangements, transfer pricing and cross-border taxation), private equity (fund structuring, portfolio maintenance), capital markets (IPOs, mutual fund advisory), and structured finance.
Prior to joining Harneys in 2008, Chetan was the Regional Counsel (Middle East & India Hubs) for Diageo plc and a member of the company's India Executive Team. Before that, he practised at Amarchand Mangaldas, India's leading law firm.
