Harneys expands its Hong Kong team with new Corporate counsel hire

Harneys has expanded its Corporate practice in Hong Kong with the recruitment of corporate counsel Shirley Fu, who joins the firm from Maples and Calder.

Shirley has more than 10 years’ experience advising on cross-border corporate and commercial transactions in China and across Asia, with specialist expertise in BVI and Cayman Islands law. Her wide-ranging experience spans mergers and acquisitions, private equity investments, restructurings, joint ventures, investment fund formation and general corporate matters. She also boasts general banking and capital markets expertise, including bond issuances and initial public offerings.

Asia Managing Partner, Jonathan Culshaw, commented: “Shirley’s blue chip corporate law background and wide-ranging skillset will be a great asset to our transactional team and her language skills and experience make her the perfect fit for our PRC clients.”

Shirley brings three years’ offshore law experience from her time at Maples and Calder, prior to which she practised as a senior associate in the corporate team of Winston & Strawn’s Hong Kong office. She previously worked as a corporate lawyer with DLA Piper in both Hong Kong and Shanghai.

Her recruitment brings Harneys’ Hong Kong office’s lawyer headcount to 39, making it the largest offshore law firm in Hong Kong. The team is one of the most dynamic and fastest growing in the region, and its four-office Asia network across Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai and Tokyo is the largest of any offshore law firm in Asia.
