Paul Smith is a partner in our Litigation, Insolvency and Restructuring practice group in the Cayman Islands. He has nearly 20 years’ experience as a disputes lawyer, and specialises in company disputes, financial services litigation, insolvency and restructuring, fraud and asset tracing. Paul also has significant arbitration experience (both ad hoc and under various institutional rules including ICC, LCIA, SIAC etc.). Before joining Harneys, Paul spent six years at DLA Piper in London where he was a partner in their Litigation & Regulatory practice. Prior to that, he worked for Herbert Smith Freehills in Tokyo for nearly five years, and spent the first five years of his career with Slaughter and May in London, where he obtained higher rights of audience as a solicitor-advocate. Paul has also spent time on secondment at major investment and retail banks. He appears as an advocate before the Cayman courts and in arbitration proceedings.
Paul is a member of the Recovery and Insolvency Specialists Association, the Cayman Islands Legal Practitioners Association and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He is also a regular contributor to The Offshore Litigation Blog.
