Our Chinese name means Justice and Strength. Justice reflects the firm’s collegiate and meritocratic environment where the progression of our attorneys is based solely on their ability and hard work. Strength was chosen because over half of our lawyers in Hong Kong have more than 10 years experience as practising attorneys and our senior lawyers are experts in their respective fields.
Harneys’ Hong Kong office is the hub of our expanding British Virgin Islands and Cayman Islands legal practice in Asia.
Onshore lawyers and other clients based in Asia work to demanding timeframes and we believe that an office weighted towards senior experienced lawyers who can provide rapid and high level advice is essential. Our office structure allows us to ensure that a senior lawyer works on all matters to guarantee quality of advice and service and to provide a constant point of contact for clients.
Chinese clients are free to transact with our lawyers in the language of their preference. Several of our lawyers speak Cantonese and Mandarin and can read and write Chinese to a business level.
Harneys has been the leading firm for BVI law for decades; we helped write the commercial law and no other firm comes close to our collective expertise. Lawyers from our Hong Kong office advise on a wide range of matters covering the core transactional practice areas including banking and finance, capital markets, corporate, trusts and investment funds. We are regularly instructed by a majority of the world's leading onshore practices and financial institutions.

Harneys' Cayman transactional practice in Hong Kong advises on banking and finance, corporate, capital markets, funds and trusts matters. We have particular expertise on the establishment and maintenance of all types of closed and open ended Cayman Islands funds and the structuring of downstream corporate transactions for private equity and venture capital funds. Through a small team of expert senior lawyers we offer the very highest level of advice and service and a credible and cost-effective alternative to the larger Cayman practices.

Our Litigation and Restructuring Department in Hong Kong undertakes all aspects of litigation in BVI and Cayman Islands courts including shareholders disputes, just and equitable windings up, insolvency proceedings, corporate restructurings, contentious trusts disputes and asset tracing/enforcement. All pleadings, drafting, and advocacy can be done by lawyers in our Hong Kong office. For emergency injunctions our lawyers work closely with our BVI and Cayman based litigators and use the time zones to provide 24 hour service to ensure no assets are wrongfully dissipated pending the final resolution at trial.

Our affiliated services company, Harneys Asia (Offshore) Limited (HAOL) provides corporate, partnership and trust incorporation or formation services, as well as ongoing registered office, registered agent and other administrative support. HAOL is part of Harneys Services.
The Hong Kong office also provides clients with a real time interface for Harneys' Anguilla and Cyprus law practices and its British Virgin Islands intellectual property, regulatory, private client and shipping practices.
