Harneys sponsors Hong Kong’s leading LGBT event

25 October 2017

Harneys is proud to become the first offshore law firm to sponsor Hong Kong's annual Pink Dot carnival, held at West Kowloon Cultural District waterfront on Sunday 22 October.

This is the fourth Pink Dot carnival since its inception in 2014, when allies of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community banded together to support LGBT friends, family members and colleagues, who are at higher risk of being discriminated against, bullied and ostracised.  More than 10,000 people attended this year’s event, where everyone wears pink before gathering to form a human pink dot to symbolise inclusivity and diversity.

The carnival was co-organised by Pink Alliance, one of Hong Kong’s most recognised non-profit LGBT organisations, and Big Love Alliance, a non-profit organisation established to promote equality for the LGBT community and their liberation from discrimination.  They were joined by Covenant of the Rainbow, an organisation of diverse church members who believe the church should promote an inclusive community based on respect and acceptance.

Ellie Crespi, a partner in Harneys’ Hong Kong office and who spearheaded the firm’s involvement in the initiative, commented: “The Harneys team is honoured to be part of such an inspiring event which is dedicated to promoting inclusion and diversity.  As the first offshore law firm to sponsor Pink Dot, I’m very proud that we are leading the way amongst our peers in publicly demonstrating our support for our LGBT members and the wider LGBT community.”

Harneys is a supporting member of the Hong Kong Gay & Lesbian Attorneys Network (HKGALA), a voluntary professional association of LGBT and LGBT-allied attorneys, legal professionals and law students which is dedicated to promoting participation in the legal profession by LGBT individuals.  HKGALA is supported by 38 law firms in Hong Kong, with Harneys being the first offshore law firm to pledge support.
