Harneys commits over US$200,000 in support of rebuilding efforts in the BVI

19 October 2017

Harneys has committed over US$200,000 to local relief and civic projects in the British Virgin Islands, in support of recovery efforts in the wake of the devastation inflicted by Hurricanes Irma and Maria. The firm has made substantial commitments to a number of projects including the restoration of the BVI Commercial Court, and it contributed towards the Virgin Unite Relief Appeal and the British Red Cross Hurricane Irma Appeal.

In addition, the firm continues to support its adopted school, Francis Lettsome Primary School and is providing additional funding to help finance the school’s recovery and rebuilding efforts.

BVI Managing Partner, Colin Riegels stated that the firm is committed to the BVI and to rebuilding both the firm’s presence in the BVI and the local legal and financial services industry over the months and years ahead.

The BVI is our home, and Harneys is an integral part of the BVI community. Now is the time for that community to stand up and to provide support and assistance required to help the territory emerge stronger after the devastation of the recent hurricanes,” Riegels said.

The firm’s Chairman Peter Tarn, who is presently on a business trip to Europe and Asia, commented: “We continue to see growth opportunities for the BVI and its services and have not paused in our efforts to pursue them whether from Tortola or Shanghai. As such, Harneys remains committed not only to providing support to local post-hurricane relief and civic projects, but also to bringing the sort of business to the BVI which can create sustainable employment and government revenue in the future.

Harneys is committed to supporting a wide variety of charitable, educational and community development projects in the BVI through its long-standing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme and newly-established Harneys Foundation.
