Statement on Jonathan Culshaw

In Memoriam
Jonathan Culshaw

Our colleague and friend Jonathan Culshaw passed away suddenly on 5 September 2018. He was 48 years old. Jonathan was Asia Managing Partner and global head of our Investment Funds practice. He also served as a member of the firm’s Executive Committee.

Jonathan joined Harneys in 2008 and worked in our London office before relocating to Hong Kong in 2012 to become managing partner.

Jonathan transformed our operations in Asia. Our Hong Kong office grew eight-fold under his leadership, and he oversaw the opening of new offices in Singapore, Shanghai and Tokyo. In September 2017, Harneys was named Offshore Law Firm of the Year by Asian Legal Business.

Jonathan practiced law for 23 years, first in England and later in Hong Kong, the Cayman Islands and London. Jonathan was known among colleagues and clients for being an uncommonly perceptive and intelligent lawyer. He took pride in his work, and inspired those around him to do the same.

Jonathan was much more than just a colleague to us; he was also a dear friend. Jonathan was as warm as he was serious, with a generous heart and keen sense of humour. We will miss him terribly.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Jonathan’s family at this time.
