The Queen’s Birthday Honours List for 2017 has recently been published, and Harneys are thrilled to see that Edward Bannister QC (former Eastern Caribbean Supreme Commercial Court Judge) was appointed “Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George” for services to justice in the Eastern Caribbean.
The Honourable Justice Bannister took silk in London in 1991 and after a very successful career as a barrister was appointed in 2009 as the first Commercial Court Judge in the BVI. During his tenure, Justice Bannister was instrumental in the setup of the rules, administration and procedure of the Commercial Court, and delivered many judgments which greatly assisted the jurisprudence of the BVI. After six years of service, the Commercial Division of the ECSC was taken from one accomplishment to another until Justice Bannister retired in 2015.
The Queen’s Birthday Honours List historically recognises the efforts and achievements of a vast collection of people for serving and helping Britain in many different ways. The common similarity of all honourees is their demonstrated commitment to public service in their field. Harneys couldn’t agree more that this was an accolade well deserved for the Honourable Justice Bannister.
