CySEC highlights ESMA’s survey on AI adoption in the Securities Sector by financial entities

On 3 June 2025, the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) issued Circular C709 informing Regulated Entities (REs) that the European Securities and Markets Authority’s (ESMA) has launched a survey to evaluate Artificial Intelligence (AI) adoption by financial entities within the Securities Sector. This survey is voluntary and open for entities regulated by national competent authorities (NCAs) or directly supervised by ESMA.
The aim of the survey is to provide a comprehensive understanding of AI use within the financial services industry, focussing on strategies, policies, investment levels, and operational use cases. Areas of inquiry include specific AI technologies employed, their significance, security considerations, and explainability frameworks.
Key aspects of the ESMA survey
- Voluntary participation
Although participation is not mandatory, CySEC strongly encourages all REs to take part in the survey, regardless of their current level of AI use. - Survey availability
The survey is accessible online and is accompanied by detailed guidance for its completion. - Data confidentiality
Responses will be aggregated and anonymised, with all data used solely for analytical reasons.
Participating entities must complete the survey by 29 August 2025.
CySEC encourages REs to take part in the survey to help develop understanding of how AI is being used in financial services across the EU.
