Michael Harakis is a member of the Litigation, Insolvency and Restructuring team in our Cyprus office. He joined us as Counsel from a London based international law firm where he practised extensively in arbitration and international litigation. His background includes service as a legal adviser to the government of the United Kingdom where he handled matters of EU and public international law. This included advice to Ministers, negotiation of treaties, MOUs and representation of the UK before UN and EU bodies.
In over 20 years of practice, Michael has handled hundreds of major disputes including many that have found their way to the law reports. He has acted for individuals, multinationals, international organisations and states in various forums, including the English Courts, Greek Courts, the ECJ and in arbitrations in London, Athens and the Hague under, among others, LCIA, LMAA, ICC and ad hoc rules. The disputes he has taken a leading role in have ranged from modest sums to billions. He has acted as sole advocate before the English Commercial Court and in tribunals and as part of a litigation team.
